Apparently, our first summer school is running out. I will miss some people, especially the Belgian team. Was great to have almost all my LLN department here.

A Strange Habit
which I developed here in Louvain-la-Neuve is that during every night (and it has almost been a week now) I wake up for a couple of hours, then I fall back to sleep and don’t wake up at least until 8am. Really strange for me, as I usually sleep like a baby straight for 8 hours or so, plus I am an early bird, waking up latest at 7am. So I thought this nite I should have made the most out of it and I started to read. I read for nearly an hour, felt sleepy again and there I was … back into sweet dreams.
Otherwise, I am quite satisfied with my work. The isolation does me good.

A bit too early, but still fun
My mum told me I was born two months earlier. So, if I had been a nice baby, I’d have come out about this time a year … but instead –>

Thesis Short Abstract
Mixed methods within a single study are becoming more and more popular methodological approach in social sciences. However, mixing is usually limited only to a fixed combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches, most typically in two phases (e.g. focus group followed by a survey). In proposed doctoral dissertation we extend this practice by the implementation of a flexible feedback-loop. After we conduct a qualitative and quantitative part (or vice-versa) we render back to one or both methods as many times as needed. In practice, such design is basically enabled only in information-communication technology environment, because only the on-line respondents can be permanently available for the immediate participation in research. Corresponding low costs and short research-conduct time thus enable the application of the proposed extension of mixed methods.
The scientific contribution of the proposed dissertation is two folded
(a) development of a new type of mixed-methods design based on a feedback-loop,
(b) outline of the procedural guidelines for conducting these research studies and demonstration of superiority of the proposed design in some applications.

A New Post Finally
Yeh … I feel bad … I mean I feel very bad … I left my blog alone for such a long time … It’s not like I absolutely wouldn’t have time but it was more that I was in a completely different mood. I had my first doctoral seminar on Thursday. This is a seminar when a PhD candidate first meet up with his committee and they give comments and suggestions and critics. Luckily all went well! Hopefully, next year this time I will already complete my thesis or at least be very close to completion.
Now, officially I can write my title and supervisor names:
Title: Mixing qualitative and quantitative methods in the environment of new information-communication technologies
Supervisor : prof. dr. Vasja Vehovar
Co-supervisor: prof. dr. David L. Morgan
So, in the following year, ill try to share my progress, worries, happiness, joy, pain, and all that comes in the package on my blog. Won’t be too often, I guess. Or who knows. I might feel like writing long stories on here … usually am very good at writing everything else but what I have to;)))
