LaTeX
installed;) Did it this morning, whilst doing pilates, taking a shower, packing for Luxemburg and eating breakfast.
I am a bit confused but I am sure I will manage. Don’t know which editor interface to use, I installed WinEdt and TeXnicCenter. So many plug-ins, add-ons, and similiar stuff. Any tips?
;))
Merci to all who encouraged me to go on with not latex as some might imagine, but latex
***********************************************************************
Opened PhD in word again, and what a pleasant Sunday morning surprise - it did it again. It completely messed up the formatting and styles, some 15th time in a row … I wonder how it does not get bored with it;)
Whilst installing LaTeX, there were some reasons listed, why one chose it. One of them was:
"You’re fed up with having to tweak Word (or WordPerfect,
StarOffice, etc.), just because your document has crossed the
magical border of 30 pages."
Oh well, they are damn right!

World Domination is Proceeding As Planned.
If you have a spare minute and are interested in the privacy issues, read this.
I find this bit particularly amusing:
“ … However, there are things that we know that they *are* doing. One of them is relevant to this particular case. That is work on cracking the passphrases that people use to protect their keys. The cryptography we’re using is itself uncrackable, but about 2/3 of the people in the world use a password (not even a passphrase) that directly relates to a pet or loved one. The order of frequency seems to be pets (living or dead), then children, then ex-loves. We know that at least one government has a password cracker that is based upon building a psychometric model of person who owns the key and constructing passphrases on that model. If you’re a Hollywood private eye and they seize your computer and find on it that you’re a basketball fan from your browser cache, then “Lak3rz 4 Teh w1n!” is actually a very bad passphrase. Don’t blame me when they find it in about two minutes…”
I am very bad at passwords as well. I have the same password for ages for almost every imaginable thing. Ok, at least it’s not Brix or some ex-love, but indeed refers to someone who died. I often thought of changing it but the again, it seems too much of a hassle. Plus I am sure I am not even faintly that interesting as to provoke someone to crack my psw;)).
What a naïveté, huh!

The Use of Webcams
The newest PIP report shows that roughly 21 million of people have gone online to use webcam - viewing a remote person or a place. Web cams allow users to capture digital video and immediately transmit it over the internet. They can be used for video chats and conferencing. They have been used in reality TV shows, to view remote and environmentally important locales, to increase surveillance of city streets and factories, to allow home buyers to view construction progress, to permit commuters to check out traffic hotspots etc.
Do you use a webcam? Hmm, in the beginning I was really reluctant and didn’t want to hear about it. Well, I was happy to watch my friends on a webcam but didn’t want to buy one for myself.
I ended up buying one. And i know it will be very welcome now, when am gonna be away - i will be able to show myself to my falmily.

Ever Heard Of Sports Fantasy Leagues?
The newest Pew Internet Project research shows an interesting results on online participating in sports fantasy leagues. What the heck is that … I hear you asking … or at least I heard myself.
Well, this sentence was quite impressive to me: On a typical day, two million internet users are going online to oversee and check on their fantasy teams. Two million? Even tho this represents only 8% of adult Americans, it is more than a whole adult Slovenia.
As described in PIP report, sport fantasy teams are created by fans who ‘draft’ individual professional athletes to be part of their team. The ‘team’ is an artificial assembly of players from a variety of real teams.
So, to cut a long story short …
- 83% of the participants in online fantasy leagues are male;
- 76% of the participants in online fantasy leagues have six or more years of internet experience;
- 61% of the participants have broadband at home;
- 51% of the participants use the internet daily.
Two words on my mind … narcotic disfunction … oh … am no better .. only that I don’t play sports, but instead I do the online hanging out with friends.

My Lappy Dangerous For Me?
Is your laptop a pain in the neck? is the title of an interesting article, which tells me that my laptop can cause a severe damage to myself, considering the fact that I am really overdoing it. I only use laptop, which is, according to some doctors, not exactly a wise move, since there are reports of steady stream of new patients who also overdone it on laptops.
Why again there is such a danger in using laptops? Well, as the article stress out, the main problem is that the screen and keyboard are so close together. So, there are at least two possible injures: cramped neck or wreaked havoc on shoulders and arms. Hmmm, which one do I prefer?? And there is more to it: people have been burned by the heat the machines generate. Not to mention the fertility problems in men who place the machines on their laps for prolonged periods .
So, I think it’s time for Bojana to go and buy at least a separate keyboard to avoid neck and shoulder trouble. And taking breaks every now and then might help as well.
Oh well, I guess I spend waaaay too much time with my lappy;)), I’ll need to find some health-save solution. Or else there will be some whining later on ..

Beware Of Spimmers!
spim n. Unsolicited commercial messages sent via an instant messaging system. Also: spIM.
spimming pp.
spimmer n.
antispim adj.
Whatever form of communication we use, it always makes a good opportunity for marketers to start exploiting it. So it is that spam has come to instant messaging-yielding IM spam, or spim. It’s been around a few years, but only in the past few months has it reached the threshold of disruption.
Officials at America Online, which runs the popular Instant Messenger service, and Microsoft, which runs MSN Messenger, say they’ve seen an increase in the amount of IM spam. Messaging and collaboration research firm Ferris Research estimates that the quantity of such solicitations doubled from 2002 to 2003. The volume of so-called spim is set triple in 2004, according to a new report from the Radicati Group, a technology market research firm from California.
IM software allows users to swap text messages and files in real time from a computer or cell phone, with Microsoft, Yahoo or AOL programs being the most popular. Spim is more insidious than spam because messages pop up automatically when a user is logged in, making them harder to ignore. However, users of IM programs commonly use a “buddy list” of invited friends to limit who can send messages to them. The buddy lists can be switched off, but their widespread use makes it more difficult for spimmers to message a stranger’s computer. Faced with these challenges, spimmers have developed new tools. Some resemble common virus writing techniques, such as devising a malicious piece of code that exploits vulnerabilities in IM programs. Spimmers bury the code in a link or file and send it to an IM user. If the user activates the code, the spimmer can then message people on the user’s buddy list by borrowing their identity. Although spimmers must initially find users whose “buddy list” setting is switched off, getting that user to then click on a link or download a file is often easier than it is via email.
As posted at Pew Internet and America Life Project’s PIP comments series by Lee Rainie, in the The Advent Of Spim , 30% of American adult instant messaging users (which makes some 17 million adults) have gotten spim. Their latest nationwide telephone pool (taken between January 13 and February 9) show that younger internet users (who are more likely to use IM) are the most likely internet users to get spim.
In the USA, the first arrest over spim already took place. A 18-years old boy was arrested for sending 1.5 million messages, advertising pornography and mortgages. Quite scary, huh?
So, now we’ll have to worry about how not to get spimmed or what? Considering that I tend to use IM every day, I am getting quite nervous here, only thinking about the possibility of dealing with it.
Leave us alone, you intrusive sellers, marketers, advertisers, and who ever may fall into this category!

Wiki For Travel
As Peter put it on his blog, World66 does for travel information what Wikipedia does for reference information. World66 is an open content online travel guide, where every traveler (or native;)) can edit information on or upload a picture of certain city, country, or any other destination. Well, I immediately checked it out with uploading a picture to Slovenian photo gallery. And they offer a nice feature: Take Away!
