Farewell Reception

Apparently, our first summer school is running out. I will miss some people, especially the Belgian team. Was great to have almost all my LLN department here.

Those Were the Days

When I wrote 1000 words a day. Not so long ago. I know I am getting awfully boring and incredible annoying with my whining but what the heck, it is my blog and I can write what I want;) Not that I want to be ignorant of the readers, but I am sure people understand. And now, I *NEED* to whine;).

I am still in a very odd mood. I want to work, I can’t concentrate. Too much going on around me, which makes me being on high alert all the time. I am crossing my own nerves already. Thanks, Sabina, to listening to me, not an easy job I must admit;).
Yesterday, one of my colleague from uni read Chapter 4 (cos it’s related to her topic of expertise) and she gave me some great feedback. She said it is very well written and she only had some minor comments. Oh, this was nice to hear!
During the writing up, I kept some sort of stat diary, with number of words written and the timeline of when they were written. I am afraid to open that file and to realise that I did not make an entry already since Saturday the 5th. That’s exactly 10 days ago. 10000 words went down the drain. It gives me shiver only to think of it.

But today, well today … or better tomorrow, I will go back to my … hm, there are plenty of names I could call it: my baby (as there indeed a metaphor of giving birth could apply), mon cherie (as it makes me being passionate about it, feeling happy and satisfied, gives me edge, and I am loving it … well, most of the time), my opponent (cos I would like to throw it all away, get rid of it, never come closer again), my protector (as I can always hide behind it, always keep it close to me), my companion (as it travels with me and gives me reasons to travel).

Time to go to bed.I am way over my bed time!

Why iPod?

Whilst running, I mean. Many many people are using it. Here at home I don’t meet anyone cos I go very early, but back in the UK I met loads of people. 9 out of 10 were using some kind of MP3 player. I am sure people have their own good reasoning for using it, but the one in the extract from this morning’s chat below is probably the funniest one;)

?

A cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind. An empty desk is a sign of ?

Oh well, excuses, excuses …

Last summer this time, I was taking this pictures. I haven’t seen the sea (=haven’t been diving) for almost a year. No wonder …;)) But ALL in the name of PhD, of course! Well, after that, am gonna go deep into the sea … or perhaps deep into a classroom as the semester will start again;)

Marie-Hélène

I met her in Cambridge. We sat at the same table, chair to chair at the conference dinner. It was already a desert time when she turned to me and asked my name. We immediately started chatting, and actually haven’t stopped yet. She lives in Oxford, so it was a perfect chance to meet her again, since the Research Methods Festival was happening there. We met almost every day, had great chats, laughs and nice time together. She is from Quebec, but she plans to stay in Europe for a while. She is a person with a great heart, very dynamic, with sparkling eyes, doing all sorts of stuff beside her PhD.

I feel like I met a very good friend that was meant to be met at this point in my life. On the top of it, we are the same age;)
ME_N

Probably, now, she would be saying: “… c’est vrai??” ;)))

Left Belgium

for London, where we had a thematic network meeting at LSE.

I would like to thank to all my friends at UCLouvain for very nice time I had in the past months among them; to Benoit for his intellectual input in my writing up, Anne-Sylvie to driving me back to Court-Saint-Etienne in the last two weeks, Caroline for a great farevell cake, Lieven for this nice t-shirt on comparative religions (see below;)), Airo for his tour around Leuven, and Regis, Pierre, Virginie, Ward, Gaelle and Guilia for dinner parties, nice chats and just being around. Merci beaucoup, cher amis! I can’t wait to greet you all in a few weeks time in Ljubljana.

A short guide to comparative religion

This is well worth reading;)

So close, but far away!

Who: Depeche Mode

Where: any minute now in Ljubljana

Why: Cos they will play 300m from my home, and I am in Belgium!

How come: Well, initially I planned to go home tonite, so my flight will just landend at Brnik any minute now. Then I decided to stay until the end of June, as I have a meeting at LSE in London and some conferences later on, which would mean loads of flying back and forth. The cost for that desicion is that I am missing out this splendind opportunity to see them again;).

Dave and Martin

And this time, I would make much better pictures;)

So I went to their site to see whether I can compensate for my loss anywhere around here. And what I find out? They are playing in London end of June, which is great (am there;)), but already on 25th and I am arriving at 29th. Well, to make it even worse they are coming to Belgium on July 2nd. Great! Couldn’t they instead play here while I am still around and in the UK when I am there??? Only a matter of few days, anyway. Apparently not meant to be at Playing the Angel twice. Fine as well;))

Ok, back to writing, 350 more words to write to meet the quota for today.

20 km of LLN

some had 20km of Brussels last Sunday … apparently this morning I decided to have 20km of Louvain-la-Neuve.

Story? Like yesterday morning, I started my run thru quite pleasant woods, up down up down … after some 30 mins I ended up in Ottignies, which would have been still ok if I hadn’t been so stubborn and would have had a look at which direction is LLN. As I trusted my very reliable inner compass, I continued my run into completely different direction (Wavre), then not-having-even-the-slightest-clue-how I ended up running on the Brussels-Namur highway. It was scary as hell, and I saw no way of getting off. Well, at last I found LLN again, by following the signs;)). Went off at the Universite-something exit and finally saw a familiar ground - LLN lake. Funny feeling was when there was a speed regulation traffic sign - not more than 70;). I though: I am certainly not violating this one!

I can bearly walk, sit, stand … my hips, legs, bones, thighs –> pain pain pain, not to mention all the blisters. I am disappointed at the ability of running socks).
Yay!!

I went running this morning! Yoohoo! Groovy! Great! Amazing! Awesome! Wahay! Incredible! Good girl!

Ok, I went running after some … three months? Not so groovy anymore, huh:)?

Micro step for Belgium or Slovenia (boo), but nearly 10 km pour moi!
