London Incident

I was in London.

Airo happened to be in London at the same time.

We were delighted at the unexpected chance to meet.

We agreed to meet at 10pm in Covent Garden (next day we both were leaving).
He sent me a text message that he has been arriving.
I sent him a text message that I was already there.

I was waiting for him.

He was waiting for me.

No Airo around.

No Nana around.

A few more texts were sent.

He should have been there.

She should have been there.

He left.

I left.

We both were there for more than half an hour, probably a step away form each other, but because of the delay of text message deliverance, we missed each other only by fraction.
Another good lesson about the reliability of new technologies.

What Has Been Really Nice to Remember From 2006:

There have also been some very painful, sad and dreadful moments when I hurt people or was hurt (which was mostly, sadly, related to my selfish period of writing up) but I will leave those in 2006.

Life After Becoming a Doctor –> in Working Terms

Lately, a question that at least two out of three persons ask me is: “So what do you do now that you have become a doctor?” This,of course, relates to my work load.

Everyone assumes that there is significantly less work. O_o, not!
Nothing much has really changed in the terms of work load. Just the structure is different. Beside being a teaching assistant, I have also began to lecture, which is far more demanding. The work for preparation of ECPR Summer School 2007 is already taking place. Then, EU Kids Online project also fills up some of my time. Next, I have to work on getting involved in new research projects.
Plus, numerus conferences are coming up so I am writing and sending abstracts and papers.

But all this is nothing. What I really must start working on, are articles out of my PhD. This is how I can really contribute to the scientific knowledge –> by publishing findings from the research in recognized international journals. To be honest, there is also a more pragmatic reasoning behind this than contributing to the knowledge. I need publications in order to get an assistant professorship without which I can’t really climb up the academic ladder. Not that I am pathologically ambitious, but it is a formal request for keeping my job.

Luckily enough, I really like what I do;)) Tho, it often brings me to the dilemma of what is still ‘healthy’ for my private life. I hope to find balance soon, before it is too late.

Disconnected

It was fun buying stuff for the new flat. Moving is a bit less fun tho. But that is not what worries me. What is killing me is the fact that I won’t be able to connect to internet in the new flat for a month. This is like giving away the oxygen bottle 40m underwater.

It will be a real challenge. I might even develop some strange psychological disorders … or am gonna live in the office for a month. Alternatives are quite appealing ….

Uses and Misuses of Con Brio

Blogs, apparently, have been turning into a quite powerful source of information and a means to give voice to practically any individual who wants to go ‘public’. Some become very popular for this and that reason (mostly for its content), some stay lost in the noise and are read only by a few of those who know/like/would like to know/are for some reason interested in the author.

Con Brio probs falls in the later category. Its content is certainly not such a kick to get someone ’signed up’ for their daily dose. I am quite happy like that as my aim is not to get mainstream and to drag the attention of the masses (otherwise I’d publish my naked picture;)), but to communicate to those who I consider as friends, colleagues, nice people who like to stop by even if we have never met before. The main purpose of this sometimes quite senseless writing is thus to keep them updated with whatsoever info I am willing to share.

Often, I am asked: ‘How come you post all this stuff about you UNDER YOUR REAL NAME? Are you at all aware of the consequences it can have? Everyone can read it!’.

My typical answer: ‘All I write can be shared. Or else I don’t write about it. I am happy that blog gives me the opportunity to share’. I already wrote once about this.

Well.
Usually, I only think of a friendly use of Con Brio –> mainly my friends and colleagues being kept informed, sharing pictures of places and people with them. I don’t think of misuses. What could a misuse be? Ok, obviously marketers quickly picked up the opportunity and are posting bizarre ads in the comments but luckily Askimet does the trick so no spam actually gets posted.

Otherwise I can’t really think of how someone would use my own blog against me. At least I could not until recently, when I was informed that someone took off one of my pictures and used it for fairly strange purposes.
It gave me quite a spooky feeling, almost a bit of a shiver I must admit. All of a sudden, I realised it just might be a good idea of actually starting to use ViewLevel plug-in.

Then I was thinking of publishing even more pictures to give a ‘full impression’;). Now, I’d like to find out, what was the drive, what was the intention? From purely anthropological perspective, of course;))

Sweet Little Creatures

Zan celebrated his 4th bday yesterday. These kids are amazing. Not much more to say … I wish I could have more time for my two little treasures.

I got him a kiddy laptop(of course;)), and Jaka got a delayed guitar;)

2.30

and I am awake;). That’s what happen if one goes to bed at 8pm. Not that I am capable of sharing anything interesting this time a night (but am I ever;)). Just this little cute thing that made me being aware today the life outside the PhD can start again …
