LaTeX

installed;) Did it this morning, whilst doing pilates, taking a shower, packing for Luxemburg and eating breakfast.

I am a bit confused but I am sure I will manage. Don’t know which editor interface to use, I installed WinEdt and TeXnicCenter. So many plug-ins, add-ons, and similiar stuff. Any tips?

;))
Merci to all who encouraged me to go on with not latex as some might imagine, but latex ;)

***********************************************************************

Opened PhD in word again, and what a pleasant Sunday morning surprise - it did it again. It completely messed up the formatting and styles, some 15th time in a row … I wonder how it does not get bored with it;)
Whilst installing LaTeX, there were some reasons listed, why one chose it. One of them was:

"You’re fed up with having to tweak Word (or WordPerfect,
StarOffice, etc.), just because your document has crossed the
magical border of 30 pages."

Oh well, they are damn right!

I write latex with LyX: http://www.lyx.org/

It is a bit like word: you just have to type text without any latex control sequences and you choose style for each paragraph: like “standard” for normal text and “chapter” for chapter names, then you can choose “section”, “subsection”, “subsubsection” etc.

With LyX you don’t directly write in LaTeX, but you write to LyX, which then gets converted into LaTeX, which then get’s converted to .dvi/.pdf/.ps/whatever.

If you need help, you may contact me on my e-mail address.

Jure, I will do this for the final final version, so I have about a month, considering my seminar is next Monday.

jaKa, to make a bit of a put off, I really don’t like latex (the wear);) But I am sure I will love writing latex …

I wrote all my thesises and documents with some real value in LaTeX, and must say that writing LaTeX in latex doesn’t offer any real advantages, but for example reading A (Not So) Short Introduction to LaTeX2e does have.

Hey B, good luck and fun with it, it’s a great computer tool. (TeX is namely a typographical computer language.)
