Indexing

is my latest *passion*. Have you ever done an Index in Word before? If yes, then you know what I am talking about. Highly entertaining and not-at-all-time-consuming task that makes me *sigh* all the time.

Maybe I am not doing this right so please let me know if there is any easier and less insane way than this:

I have to literally put an index entry to every single word or an author I would like to index, each time again and again. Somehow optimistically I thought once per word or an author would be enough and then the word will do its automatisation since we are talking about *automated indexing*. Nonono, I need to do it for every single word over and over again … snail speed activity.

the suspense of this story - namely, how you are pitting your wits against the godforsaken M$ Word in order to typeset you phd -, is just immense!

well, I’d hate to end such entertaining reports, but for fuck’s sake, why don’t you people in social sciences use LaTeX?!

typesetting anything longer than 5 pages in Word constitutes a slow and painful suicide. besides, one has to create indices, TOCs, lists of figures and tables for a PhD… and a long list of references… omfg, I feel pity for you! ;)

jaKa, actually I took the decision to start writing in LaTeX some two weeks ago when I first saw how sexy a PhD in LaTeX looked like - nice neat book format. And, extensively debating earlier today with my fellow #s-t chatters, I came to the conclusion that I will convert my whole PhD into LaTeX. Now tell me, how insane is this!!;))

The only thing that gives me worries with such move is EndNote references, which only work with Word. But I am sure there is a feasible solution to this.

Latex supports something like BibTex (I may have misspelled it), which is made for references.
