Thesis Short Abstract

Mixed methods within a single study are becoming more and more popular methodological approach in social sciences. However, mixing is usually limited only to a fixed combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches, most typically in two phases (e.g. focus group followed by a survey). In proposed doctoral dissertation we extend this practice by the implementation of a flexible feedback-loop. After we conduct a qualitative and quantitative part (or vice-versa) we render back to one or both methods as many times as needed. In practice, such design is basically enabled only in information-communication technology environment, because only the on-line respondents can be permanently available for the immediate participation in research. Corresponding low costs and short research-conduct time thus enable the application of the proposed extension of mixed methods.

The scientific contribution of the proposed dissertation is two folded

(a) development of a new type of mixed-methods design based on a feedback-loop,

(b) outline of the procedural guidelines for conducting these research studies and demonstration of superiority of the proposed design in some applications.
