Ljubljana On This Beautiful Day
Today, it appeared to be a wonderful day and I decided to take a walk down the city centre. To be honest, I wasn’t walking thru Ljubljana (even tho in live here) for ages. I always find myself being stucked here in Bezigrad (part of Ljubljana). But today I decided to make a change to it, and walked for about 20 minutes to get to city centre. Even tho I usually use my rollerblades to get around, I chose walking this time. So as I was strolling the streets I noticed that right after Christmas decoration (which of course I didn’t manage to see), Ljubljana is now full of sales signs. But I couldn’t have been bothered to walk into the stores, the sun was too nice. However, I decided to take a look into one specific store with mountaineering boots and … look look who I ran into. I met my dear friend Adela.
A nice view from a restaurant on the top of department store building. We wanted to stop here to eat something but we didn’t like it too much so we walked on. We passed Copova Street and Preseren Square to get to the old part of Ljubljana.
The square is called after Slovenia greatest poet France Preseren (1800-1849).
Sculpture of France Preseren, on Preseren Square above the Ljubljanica River. The sculpture has been erected facing the balcony of where his beloved Julija’s apartments were. She was a woman of higher social status whom he loved. She became, for many years, his muse and an object on unrequited love.
I couldn’t resist taking this picture of Preseren Square and Three Bridges. Then me and Adela sit down for lunch in a nice tavern, called Julija. Hmmmmm, one might think that it is named after Preseren’s Julija, but vis-a-vis there is a bar, called Romeo, so might have something to do with Shakespeare instead:))
After lunch we slowly head back home, and I liked the little shop with nice colourful things (tho I didn’t take a look inside).
P.S. I must admit tho, that for posting these pictures of Ljubljana, I was inspired by Lisa. She posted great pictures of Tel Aviv the other day.
