I returned home from my skiing holiday, full of nice impressions and good intentions to write a nice post, with nice pictures. Then, first thing in the morning I checked Lisa’s blog for new parts of her story of How Lisa Came To Israel. I read, and I read and suddendly, I felt so stupid to write about skiing holiday. Skiing holiday? Trivial in comparison to what Lisa has to share. She is incredible, amazing, her story reads as if one was a part of it. She describes the arrival of a nice New Middle East after Oslo Accords. And then all of a sudden, boom, a second intifada, a new horror, the day of lynch, the beginning of a series of suicide bombings. Everything from a personal perspective of a girl, living in Tel Aviv.
So, today I won’t be posting about my skiing holiday, maybe tomorrow.

Just Some Cookies!
Yesterday I went home to visit my mum, before I go skiing. And of course, I had to look in on my two little nephews, too. The younger one, Jaka (seven months) had some sort of cold and poor baby was throwing up at the time of my visit. The older one, Zan (two years and 3 months) wasn’t even at home. I took my brother’s dog (which I love as it would be mine) for a walk and when I and Brix came back, Zan had just returned home as well.
A tiny voice coming out of the car: “Bojana, Bojana!” His mother let him out, he ran to me and I quickly took the opportunity to take this picture.
Then he said: “Bojana, Bojana, come on in, let’s go to my room!” I wanted a kiss first;) There are no words to describe a joy and happiness I am feeling when being around this little boy. We entered the house, he immediately turned the light on in the corridor, taking my winter jacket and a scarf off. Then I had to run after him into his new room (he had a smaller one before), he was being extremely proud of it. He sat down into his little chair, ready for me to take another picture of him.

Wiki For Travel
As Peter put it on his blog, World66 does for travel information what Wikipedia does for reference information. World66 is an open content online travel guide, where every traveler (or native;)) can edit information on or upload a picture of certain city, country, or any other destination. Well, I immediately checked it out with uploading a picture to Slovenian photo gallery. And they offer a nice feature: Take Away!

What A Stunner!!
A user of Neowin found and published few pictures, on which Bill Gates posed like some kind of a top model for Teen Beat Photospread back in 1983.
And thank you, Ian, for the title:)

What About Your Privacy, Bloggers??????
Apparently, when blogging, one gives out all sorts of information about oneself. In different formats: text, pictures (hm, thats about all). Telling the world about one’s private thoughts, wishes, perceptions of the world and people, fears, happy moments, sad moments. Hmmmmmm, what happened to our privacy, bloggers?
In the last few days, an interesting question was posed to me by different persons. Some did it randomly; some knew privacy could be a serious issue for me. So the question was: What about your privacy, Bojana? People can easily interconnect the data you give out about yourself and other electronic data, gathered about you, and then know all about who you are, what you do, where you are, how you feel. And those people might want to take advantage of those data. One of them added: You are so much worried about your privacy and then you go and write a blog under your real name.
True. True. I can be as paranoid about privacy as to run antispy software every day after surfing the net just to make sure to get rid of any tracking software, deleting all cookies after surfing the net, being constantly worried about the possibility of my computer being hijacked, etc etc. I hate it when I know my mobile phone provider collects data about who I call, when I call, where I was yesterday at 10pm, who sent me that text message at 11am, what was said in it. I hate it when I know my credit card is a tracking device - my bank knows exactly where am doing the payment, when, what I buy, in which country, so they can make a nice profile of consumer called Bojana. I hate it when my ISP provider tracks all my online activities which sites did I visit yesterday, which sites I go back to, how much time do I spend there. I certainly dont like knowing that all the emails I write are subject to be read by people who are not the intended receivers. The interception of emails is really an automatic and routine procedure (I used to use PGP key, but then, not many of my friends use them and I cant force them to start using them). A while ago, there was an online database of all bank account holders (I found myself in it) with quite some data, published on the net by Slovenian Bank. By mistake:)) And I could go on and on and on. The capacity of surveillance possibilities is surly enhanced in Information Age, mostly due to ability of interconnection of gathered data about specific person. And by doing so, and processing that information, I as an individual should be quite scared about the fact, that almost every move I make, it is electronically registered and therefore can be used also for quite threatening purposes.
It may feel like we are performing an intimate act when we use our mobile phones and computers to transmit our private and not so private thoughts, business details, and also money! But cleaver eavesdroppers, and sometimes even not so cleaver, can hear it all. We think we are whispering, but actually we are broadcasting!
I think every person should be entitled to a workshop on How To Retain Your Privacy Nowadays! There are things we could do for more protection but we are either too lazy or too busy to learn how. We should learn more how to protect our communication and personal data against intrusion, against stealing and interconnecting the data. We should learn some cryptography in order to keep our electronic privacy.
So, my blog is like a drop into the sea (as we say it in Slovenian). Plus my blog contains no information that I wouldnt like people to find out about. Whereas there is a lot of data tracked about me, which I don’t want to be tracked. Of course I have to do a little pre-selection of what to publish and what not to. For example, today a great thing has happened to me. I was so happy I wanted to share it with the entire world. But I better not publish it (for those curious about it, drop me an email, I will tell u all about it:))))))). So, I need to do some selection but what I post and people out there read, is what I want them to read. And all the pictures I show, I want them to be seen.
The difference is quite simple: I do the selection. I have a control over the amount of information revealed.

How Nerdy Are You???
On this blog I found a funny test about how nerdy am I. And the results told me this:
“10% scored higher,
1% scored the same, and
90% scored lower.
What does this mean? Your nerdiness is:
Nerd King. Apply for a professorship at MIT now!!!”

Ljubljana On This Beautiful Day
Today, it appeared to be a wonderful day and I decided to take a walk down the city centre. To be honest, I wasn’t walking thru Ljubljana (even tho in live here) for ages. I always find myself being stucked here in Bezigrad (part of Ljubljana). But today I decided to make a change to it, and walked for about 20 minutes to get to city centre. Even tho I usually use my rollerblades to get around, I chose walking this time. So as I was strolling the streets I noticed that right after Christmas decoration (which of course I didn’t manage to see), Ljubljana is now full of sales signs. But I couldn’t have been bothered to walk into the stores, the sun was too nice. However, I decided to take a look into one specific store with mountaineering boots and … look look who I ran into. I met my dear friend Adela.
A nice view from a restaurant on the top of department store building. We wanted to stop here to eat something but we didn’t like it too much so we walked on. We passed Copova Street and Preseren Square to get to the old part of Ljubljana.
The square is called after Slovenia greatest poet France Preseren (1800-1849).
Sculpture of France Preseren, on Preseren Square above the Ljubljanica River. The sculpture has been erected facing the balcony of where his beloved Julija’s apartments were. She was a woman of higher social status whom he loved. She became, for many years, his muse and an object on unrequited love.
I couldn’t resist taking this picture of Preseren Square and Three Bridges. Then me and Adela sit down for lunch in a nice tavern, called Julija. Hmmmmm, one might think that it is named after Preseren’s Julija, but vis-a-vis there is a bar, called Romeo, so might have something to do with Shakespeare instead:))
After lunch we slowly head back home, and I liked the little shop with nice colourful things (tho I didn’t take a look inside).
P.S. I must admit tho, that for posting these pictures of Ljubljana, I was inspired by Lisa. She posted great pictures of Tel Aviv the other day.

Earthquaaake
I just talked to a friend who asked me if I had felt a slight earthquake at 9ish or so. Nope. I didn’t. I went to check on Slovenian Environmental Agency web sites and learned that actually two moderate earthquakes occurred at 8.58am and 9.05 am this morning. They hit by magnitude 4,1 for the first one and 3,8 for the second one. The centre was Cerkno, which lies on a western part of Slovenia and that’s why my friend felt it. She lives quite near by. Also some people in Ljubljana felt it but not Bojana:)).
Ljubljana has a serious history of earthquake’s hits. The first one took place back in 1511, and after that one Ljubljana needed to be partly rebuilt. Then, in 1895 a massive earthquake destroyed much of the city, razing most of it to the ground.

No Istanbul This Time
Yesterday, first thing in the morning I rang Adria up to see what was going on with that flight. I was told there were too few passengers and they cancelled it but the return flight was still ok. Then later on I called the person, responsible for Istanbul flights and asked her again about the return flight. That piece of information I got was different from what I heard before: also cancelled. Hmmmm. Too few passengers. They offered us some substitutive flights, but accepting those we would have stayed there less time or would have returned home later. Since I am planning to go skiing next Saturday, I can’t possible return home later, so we decide to postpone it. Till early March, or so. I am a bit sorry cos I was really looking forward to going. But as we will go anyway, just later, it doesn’t bother me that much.
And good news: I will be able to work also the whole next week. We have semester holidays here so I have no teaching for a month - an opportunity to work on and read for my thesis for the whole next week:)))))))
